Om het beeld van Nederland in de wereld bij te stellen en meer begrip voor Nederland te creeëren, had het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken twee weken geleden acht Egyptische bloggers hier uitgenodigd.Vorige week vertelden twee van hen, Wael Abbas en Sherif Abdelaziz Ahmed, in nrc.next wat mensenrechtenblogs in Egypte teweeg brengen, en hoe gevaarlijk bloggen daarover is.

A country of peace
My thoughts about the Netherlands before this visit were negative, especially because of the Fitna movie of politician Wilders. To muslims, it seems Holland has racial discrimination and persecution.
But after my visit to Holland, my thoughts have changed completely and I now know the real view.
I know Wilders has just twenty percent of the people’s voices. There is eighty percent that didn’t give him their voice. And I know his opinions are about all migrants and about everybody foreign, not just about muslims. This is really an important clarification to me. It was confirmed that the majority of the Dutch people respect the Islam and a lot of muslims in Holland live in safety and freedom.
I also saw muslim women with a scarf or veil walking in the street safely. They were working normally.
